Under the Stars

Under The Stars byRichard Crane
Directed by Chris Butler

Stella and Regina are understudies in a West end production of a classical tragedy. As the stars on stage are heard emoting over the tannoy, the understudies vent their frustration on each other.Stella is a method actress, passionate about the magic of the theatre, whilst Regina is her cynically practical opposite, resigned to knitting and shopping at Sainsbury’s. When their double-crossing director brings in a Known Actress as the “cover” for one of the stars, the two rivals unite in their resentment. In a mixture of pathos and hilarity, Richard Crane offers us an insight into the lives of would-be stars who are never seen.
