A Matter of Life and Death
Returning to England from a bombing run in May 1945, Peter Carter’s plane is damaged and his parachute ripped to shreds. On his radio he talks to June, a young woman working for the WAAF, to pass on his farewell message to his mother before he jumps, preferring this to burning up with his plane… but he wakes up in the surf, still alive! It should have been his time to die, but there was a mix-up in heaven and they couldn’t find him in that thick pea-souper! By the time his ‘Conductor’ catches up with him hours later, Peter and June have met and fallen in love. This changes everything, and since it happened through no fault of his own, Peter figures that he is owed a second chance and so a trial is arranged in heaven to decide his fate.
